ABOUT

Who We Are

Wings  of Love Ministries, is a fun-loving ministry, who believes in the supernatural power of God. We love people, and of course we love our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We have a heart for the lost, broken, abused, battered and confused, because at some point in our lives we were once those same things. The community is important to us, and family is our priority. Our mission is to see Jesus at the center each person's life.

Transforming Lives One Step At A Time

The Mission & Affirmation

To preach the Gospel, equip and edify the saints.

To train and teach our children and youth in Christian doctrine.

To walk in the beauty of Holiness and true righteousness.

To give generously, cheerfully and sacrificially.

To win the lost to Christ.

What We Offer

There so many things available at Wings of Love to help you transfrom your life into the image of Jesus Christ.  However the priority is the Word of God. There are serveral opportunites through out the month to hear God's Words. Romans 10:17, Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God. It is the pure Word of God that transforms our live.

Therefore our priority and emphasis is placed on Bible Class, New Membership Class, Sunday School, Marriage Enrichment, and Christian Enrichment.

Church History

There were 12 names submitted for the naming of the Church.  It was narrowed down to two (2) "Children of God" and "Wings of Love."  We chose "Wings of Love," which was submitted by Trustee Benjamin Washington.  We toiled and labored for 7 ½months at the Jeter  Memorial Funeral Home with Sis. Helen Brown acting as church clerk and Sis. Barbara Shabazz as acting church secretary.  All of the business meetings and choir rehearsals were held at the Hillcrest Residence Home owned by the late Trustee Daisy Winslow.  All usher board meetings were held at the late Trustee Johnnie McKenzie and Minnie McKenzie's home on East Outer Drive.  On February 20, 1984, a loan committee (then Trustee Lawrence Brown and the late Trustee Daisy Winslow) organized to purchase a church.  We also appointed a Finance Committee (the late Deacon Eddie Carpenter, Trustee Ivory J. Porter, Trustee Mary E. Ransom, Deacon Fred Williams, and the late Deacon Mitchell Welch).  During that time, Rev. Matthew Washington resigned and the late Rev. Robert Hill was appointed as presiding minister.

After the struggle of looking at several buildings, the Mother of Trustee Goodman, the late Mother Lillie Goodman was riding the bus one day and looked to her right and saw this building, which was a miracle for us.  After which, the officers started negotiating for this building.  God is good!  The purchase price was $165,000.00 and the Lord enabled us to pay down $65,000.00 which was raised from our church family.

On May 21, 1984, we closed the deal on this building and the keys were handed over to us on June 1, 1984.

On June 10, 1984, there was a motorcade led from the Jeter Memorial Funeral Home to our present church home, where Mr. Andy Andrew, president of the Seldon Mortgage Company presented us with the keys to the church to Trustee Benjamin Washington.

Rev. Alvin E. Jackson, Sr., preached the first sermon in our Church.  We later decided by the guidance of the Lord that Rev. Alvin E. Jackson, Sr. should become our Pastor, the vote was unanimous.

God having all life, glory, and goodness, has blessed Wings of Love to burn the mortgage on our church.  We have since, purchased parking lots to ensure adequate parking for our members and friends.  We have also modernized our beautiful sanctuary, moving out of chairs into our comfortable pews and we had new baptismal pool installed.

In 1986, we were able to share with others what we had, through our Sunday afternoon broadcast over the Radio Station 1400 AM - WQBH.

In November, 2002, we rented Bailey Cathedral to continue our worship and praise services until the renovation of our current location was complete.

Eighteen months later, on May 16, 2004, the Lord blessed us to return to our newly renovated edifice.  Once again proving thatThey that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint!

The Lord is truly blessing us, and we are continuously doing great things here at Wings of Love Ministries. We are currently integrating new technology to better serve God's people near and far. We continue to serve God and remain the church with the community at heart.
